The customers can concentrate on their core operations when the financial matters are in order

Minna Pettinen has worked as a Financial Assistant at SYK for three years. For Minna, who earlier worked as an IT consultant and in customer service, the new job was an inspiring leap into a slightly unknown territory.

“I am good at numbers and like them – numbers are unambiguous and absolute,” Minna says with a smile.

The most important element of Minna’s job is responsibility for rent invoicing and the associated maintenance of the property, agreement and rent invoicing database. Her everyday duties also include assistance in other financial processes, as well as the monitoring of purchase invoices, accounts and payment traffic.

“The financial processes concern much of our operations, and I actually get to work with our entire personnel. Working with our own team and open sparring is also really great.”

At the forefront of property development

Minna is fascinated with working in the real estate sector and specifically in the university world, because you can observe the changes in universities from close up.

“It is also interesting to watch closely the development of business premises in general. We at the office in Hervanta campus, in an operation-oriented working environment, can also enjoy the latest solutions for working premises. At our office, the tenants can see in practice what today’s business premises can be.”

In addition to well-being at work and the competent and pleasant working community, the work is made more meaningful for Minna by the fact that she works at the core of the business. She ensures for her part that the basic prerequisites of operations are in order – so that the colleagues and tenants can concentrate on their core businesses when the rent invoices are in order and no time is spent on sorting out basic functions, for example.

“It is important to me that our customers can concentrate on their core businesses when we for our part can ensure that at least the financial processes do not cause any additional work. I also feel that I am supporting my colleagues when they can also spend their time attending to their own duties.”

Appreciation of well-being at work at the focus

Minna appreciates the fact that, as an employer, SYK takes an interest in the well-being of its employees and supports their physical fitness e.g. with ergonomics. You can also occasionally retreat to the gym room at the office in Hervanta campus to exercise your body. Furthermore, the different premises at the office for solitary and more social work improve the working day experience.

“Even before I was recruited, I had a really positive mental image of SYK, and the feeling of a good bunch of people and atmosphere I got during the interview has proven to be absolutely true now that I am an SYK employee. We are a relatively small working community, and it is nice to know all my colleagues in person.”

As great milestones of last year, Minna brings up the start of the new CEO Sanna Sianoja and the 10th anniversary celebration, which again provided an important opportunity to meet tenants and discuss with them. However, the most memorable event of the year is not wholly associated with Minna’s work.

“We had a cooperation project with the University of Turku in Namibia, where we created a small remote campus. It was interesting to monitor the progress of the project, to see pictures and hear stories from my colleagues. I think that was a great project and a supplement to our own operations.”
