We are a flexible and agile expert organisation.

SYK’s operations are run by an expert organisation which, with just 35 employees, is small relative to the scale of the company’s business.

We want to keep our organisation as flexible and agile as possible, as our operations are based on collaboration with external partners. Our key cooperation partners include construction companies, property maintenance companies and construction consultants.

Our organisation was divided into five teams in 2017: campus development and marketing; property development; customer relations and services; research, development and innovation; and business administration.

Agility through management

At SYK, human resource management is flexible and informal. The focus is on actions and results. Organisational renewal was one of the factors behind the growth in the number of personnel. The Executive Board was strengthened by the addition of new Director of Customer Relations and Services Samuel Koivisto, and the year’s other new recruits included industry professionals who had previously served as consultants for the company.

Employee development discussions are held at least once a year for all of the company’s personnel. The content of the discussions includes setting personal targets and goals based on the company’s strategy together with the manager the employee in question reports to.

Employees are encouraged to maintain their professional competence through training. At quick sessions on research, held in conjunction with staff meetings, SYK employees in post-graduate education have shared their knowledge and expertise with their colleagues.

At SYK’s Personnel Days event held in Helsinki in the spring, all employees had the opportunity to learn more about the efficient use of space and service solutions, which increased overall industry awareness and knowledge among our personnel. We also continued to support recreational activities.

We encourage our employees to pursue training.

Well-being creates efficiency

In an expert organisation such as SYK, each individual’s contribution and expertise is important to the overall performance. This makes is crucial for us to maintain a high level of well-being among our personnel. One example of our strong focus on personnel is the new position of HR Coordinator established in 2017. The exit turnover rate of our personnel has also been very low.

When our Tampere office relocated to new premises, all personnel were engaged in the development of the new working environment. Various needs were given extensive consideration in the design of the new office.

We have a comprehensive occupational health service agreement with Terveystalo. We set annual targets in cooperation with the occupational health service provider for maintaining our employees’ ability to work and promoting their health. We arrange preventive activities aimed at maintaining ability to work as well as employee training on a regular basis and based on identified needs. Our employee benefits include lunch vouchers, culture vouchers and exercise vouchers. All employees are covered by the company’s incentive scheme.

In response to an employee suggestion, the company decided to start personnel club activities late in the year.

It is important for us to ensure a high level of well-being among our personnel.

“Things work better when people are healthy and happy”

From the perspective of SYK employee Laura Stortz, the highlights of 2017 included the move to a new office and the renewal of the organisation – not forgetting her own new role as HR Coordinator. Laura works hard to ensure that her colleagues can focus fully on their jobs.
