Campus cities are vibrant cities

Held on 18 February, SYK’s Win Peaks seminar focused on spatial efficiency, cooperation with the business sector and content synergies as a recipe for shared success for universities and cities. The goal of the seminar was to inspire influencers to engage in cooperation.

The key is creating dynamic hubs of research, education, business and services. One practical example of using integration to create something new is found in Lappeenranta, where Lappeenranta University of Technology and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences have operated on the same campus since 2011.

Verso renovation project started in Lappeenranta

Once the renovation is completed, the Verso building will house certain functions of Lappeenranta University of Technology and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences.

Foundation stone laid for the new Medisiina D building

The foundation stone for the new Medisiina D building developed by SYK was laid in Turku’s Kupittaa district in May. The building will be commissioned in summer 2018. The building’s gross floor area is approximately 26,000 m2. The building will house several organisations.

New building, Arvo, completed in Tampere

New premises were completed on the Kauppi campus in Tampere for use by the University of Tampere, Tampere University of Applied Sciences and BioMediTech, which is a joint biosciences and medical technology institute of the Tampere University of Technology and the University of Tampere. The students of the university and the university of applied sciences now use shared learning facilities.

Agora building awarded BREEAM Very Good certification

We renovated the Agora building (Biosciences Building II) located in Turku’s Yliopistonmäki district in autumn 2015. Following the renovation, the building was awarded a rating of Very Good in BREEAM certification.

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) is an international environmental classification system for buildings. It evaluates the environmental impacts of buildings from nine different perspectives: management, energy, water, materials, health, land use, waste, emissions and transport.

New Huawei unit at SYK’s premises in Tampere

Information and communication solutions provider Huawei established a new research and development unit in Tampere, focused on audio and imaging technology for consumer products. Huawei operates in the SYK-owned Kampusareena building on the Tampere University of Technology campus.

New business activity on the Linnanmaa campus in Oulu

Terveystalo and Subway began operating as new tenant businesses at the Linnanmaa campus in Oulu.

SYK joins TETS energy efficiency agreement

We joined the Commercial Property Action Plan of the Property and Building Sector Energy Efficiency Agreement (TETS) for the period 2017–2025.

Renovation of the Teacher Training School of the University of Turku is completed. The school starts using the premises in December.

Dec.

Premises alteration project for the Tampere University of Technology is completed.

Former library premises are transformed to new and modern learning facilities for the Language Centre.
